Earthquake

In the event of an earthquake:

1. Remain calm
2. Remain in the building
3. Take shelter under table, desk, doorway, or similar places
4. Keep away from overhead fixtures, windows, skylights, filing cabinets and bookcases
5. Await emergency instructions from the area supervisor
6. If outside, stay in the open, away from buildings or things that can fall upon you
7. Do not use elevator
8. Do not use candles, matches, or open flames in case of leaking gas.

If evacuation is ordered:

1. Evacuate as per classroom evacuation plan (posted in each classroom)
2. Beware of falling debris or electrical wires as you exit
3. Proceed to evacuation area
4. Take precautions against additional shock waves
5. Follow all emergency instructions.

After earthquake:

1. Give emergency first aid, as needed
2. Evacuate when feasible and go to a safe, open area
3. Use common sense in dealing with the crisis
4. Turn on radio (preferably battery operated) or TV for emergency news
5. Stay out of damaged buildings because aftershocks can shake them down.

Emergency Procedures - Procedures for fire and other emergencies are posted in every classroom in the Emergency Guide flipchart, and all staff members are expected to be aware of these procedures. All faculty should be aware of the location of the nearest fire extinguisher.

Medical Emergencies - Faculty should be familiar with the emergency medical guide. It is available in each department office. These are also generally posted in each classroom.

If the medical emergency is a result of an accident, instructors must complete an accident report form. These may be obtained in the department office or from the office of the Dean of Instruction. An accident form is filled out for each accident. The completed form should be given to the department chair, who will forward it to the office of the Dean of Instruction.

  • Moreno Valley and Norco Campuses - In case of emergency, use the designated emergency phone in the Student Services building to call 911, or call 9-911 from other campus phones. Specify campus, building and room, and the nature of the emergency.
  • Riverside Campus - In case of emergency, call the office of College Safety and Police at 911 or (909) 222-8520.
