Instructional Program
Review is part of RCCD's overall planning and institutional effectiveness
process. It is a collaborative goal setting and assessment process designed
to assist faculty, staff, and administrators across the campuses with
improving and refining college services. Disciplines, departments, and
interdisciplinary programs undergo self-study as part of a five-year
process that results in a comprehensive assessment of institutional
effectiveness. The District Program Review Committee and the Office
of Academic Affairs will review the self-studies and use information
from approved studies to inform resource allocation decisions.
The primary purpose
of the self-study process is to help instructional units clarify and
achieve their goals. In addition, the process seeks to:
- Strengthen programs
within and across instructional units
- Foster improvement
and self-determination within instructional units
- Strengthen the
links between instructional units, institutional goals, and strategic
planning
- Strengthen the
bonds within the college community and foster cooperation among instructional
and non-instructional units
- Provide systematic
feedback on student learning
- Generate continuous
and ongoing dialogue about how student learning can be enhanced through
program and service improvements
- Assist in achieving
the best use of institutional resources.
The self-study process
asks instructional units to assess:
- Where are we
now? (Who are/aren't we serving?)
- Where do we want
to be?
- What do we need
to do to get to our preferred destination?
- What evidence
do we need to track our progress?
- How can we improve
the self-study process?
The normal timeframe
for a unit self-study is one academic year. The process consists of
five major steps:
- Initial Planning
& Training
- Form a Self-Study
Support Committee and Complete the Initial Report
- Complete the
Program Review Process
- Disseminate and
Discuss the Findings with the College Community
- Implementation
and Follow-up.
