PART-TIME
ADJUNCT FACULTY INITIAL HIRE AGREEMENT
All part-time adjunct
faculty members hired by the Riverside Community College District must
possess the minimum qualifications established by Education Code (Section
87357), or be certified to possess equivalent qualifications through a
process established by the Academic Senate and the District Board in accordance
with the Education Code (Section 87359b). All initial appointments of
part-time adjunct faculty members will accord with the following steps.
I. Position
Identification
A. The
appropriate department will determine subject area needs for additional
part-time faculty and communicate such need to the chair.
B. Vacancies created will be filled through the following application
process.
II. Equal Employment Opportunity
In keeping with
College policies and guidelines, the Diversity and Human Resources Department and the
Diversity, Equity and Compliance Office will review representation
of part-time faculty college wide and consult with the Vice President
of Academic Affairs. Upon request, this information will be disseminated
to appropriate departments and to the President of the Academic Senate.
III. Recruitment
A. Advertisements
for vacancies will be completed by the Diversity and Human Resources Department upon
request of the department chair and maintained in the department office.
B. Unsolicited applications for part-time adjunct positions
will be maintained in the department office for a period of two years.
IV. Hiring
Process
A. Part-time
adjunct faculty will be employed only after being interviewed and
recommended by the appropriate department. Where possible at least
two faculty members from the appropriate subject area will be included
in the interview process. The department decision is communicated
to the department chair who completes an "Intent to Hire"
form and transmits it to the Office of Human Resources.
B. Only
under an emergency situation will this process not be followed.
1. In
those emergency situations, where the process above is not followed,
the chair will notify the Vice President of Academic Affairs and
the department will provide documentation of what actions were taken.
2. In
those emergency situations, interviews with the department chairs
and/or appropriate faculty designee will be scheduled in a timely
manner.
3. The
Office of Academic Affairs will review with the Academic Senate
the above documentation at the second regular meeting of the Academic
Senate in the fall and in the spring.
C. The
appointment of part-time adjunct faculty is for one semester only.
Subsequent appointments shall be subject to review by the faculty
in the appropriate discipline.
V. Recordkeeping
A. After
the interview process, an "Intent to Hire" form is completed
by the department chair and submitted to the Diversity and Human Resources
Department for verification of minimum qualifications and processing for Board
of Trustees action.
B. The
Diversity and Human Resources Department is the sole repository for official documents
for part-time adjunct faculty positions.
